Heritage & History
Historic cottages, grand civic buildings, former schools and heritage-listed landmarks sit alongside the modern city skyline in North Sydney, one of our favourite places to visit.
Its surviving heritage buildings, fascinating local history and architectural contrasts make it a rewarding destination for anyone interested in the history of Sydney and the North Shore or looking for things to do.
Check out these interesting and insightful attractions:

And much more, including the courthouse, police station, Greenwood Hotel, the Independent Theatre and North Sydney War Memorial, just to name a few.

Parks
North Sydney has some lovely green spaces tucked amongst its busy commercial centre, from heritage-listed parkland and historic grounds to relaxed gardens and community spaces.
North Sydney’s parks are a real asset to the suburb, with St Leonards Park offering a particularly appealing combination of heritage, recreation, greenery and facilities.
St Leonards Park is North Sydney’s largest and most prominent park with its beautiful 15-hectare, heritage-listed landscape, making it in our list of fun things to do in North Sydney.
Popular for picnics, dog walking and recreation, it has a lovely mix of historic character and everyday community vibes.
Notable features within the park include:
North Sydney Oval (hosting sporting competitions and special events, including the Sunset Cinema!)
Playground.
Picnic & BBQ Areas.
Sporting facilities and utilities.
There is also Ted Mack Civic Park, which is smaller green space in the heart of North Sydney’s civic precinct that acts as a sort of communal hub for the suburb and hosts markets, and Kesterton Park, a small harbourside park near the North Sydney ferry wharf.
Northside Produce Market
The Northside Produce Market is one of North Sydney’s most popular community markets bringing together local growers, regional farmers, artisan food makers and enthusiastic shoppers in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Held at Ted Mack Civic Park from 8am to 12pm every first and third Saturday of each month, the Market offers fresh seasonal produce, gourmet treats, takeaway food stalls and a friendly community atmosphere.
In particular, you’ll find:
Fresh farm produce.
Artisan foods and specialty groceries.
Baked goods and sweet treats.
Breakfast and brunch.
While food is very much the focus, there are also a couple of non-food artisan stalls scattered throughout the market.
Northside Produce Market also hosts community activities and experiences, such as behind-the-scenes market tours, free bicycle check-ups, bushcare activities and special produce showcases.
There are also plenty of other local markets across Sydney’s North Shore, here’s some of our favourties.
Cafés & Dining
North Sydney has developed a surprisingly varied café and dining scene, moving well beyond its traditional reputation as a weekday business district, making it one of the places to eat in the North Shore, and one the best things to do when visiting.
The area is particularly lively during the working week, but its growing evening and weekend hospitality scene gives visitors more reasons to explore!
For breakfast, brunch and coffee, we have:
HUMM Coffee Roasters, a popular specialty coffee shop with a relaxed atmosphere.
Bacino Bar, a long-running local espresso bar located and designed with convenience and efficiency in mind.
For stylish and elegant dining, there is:
RAFI North Sydney, a contemporary restaurant featuring seasonal Australian-inspired dishes.
